The Service

HoldenWorks will conduct an exploratory investigation to determine:

What information exists for your four family lines;
Whether there is sufficient information available to perform a sustained research study that would result in a professional lineage or kinship report.
It is understood that this preliminary investigation is not intended to result in an exhaustive genealogical study that would report on any family member or family line in a way that satisfies the Genealogical Proof Standard (GPS).
You are simply authorizing that preliminary groundwork will be conducted to determine:
- whether there is a sufficient basis for a deeper investigation
- that might uncover enough credible genealogical information
- to draw reliable conclusions about the focal family or individuals.
The combination of preliminary research and report writing will be capped at 5 hours, billed at a rate of $80 per hour, for a total of $400.00 — generally about 3 hours of research and 2 hours of written assessment or research design.
This initial fee is non-refundable.
Payment of this fee does not commit you or the researcher to continuing onto the next step of the project.

Deliverable

The initial stage of investigation will result in either an explanation of why the project ought not to continue, or a Research Plan outlining the completion of the research project.

Typical research plans identify which of the four family lines might be most fruitful to explore.
They may also provide reasons for focusing on a particular line and not another.

Note

Subsequent research is covered in a separate, signed contract. It generally requires 30–40 hours to complete.

Payment is best tendered via ACH transfer (Venmo or Zelle).
